Anotace: „Europe discovered the Romanians twice through „Dracula“: for the first time in the Middle Ages when reports and stories about the historical figure of Vlad the Impaler (1431-1476) crafted an ambivalent legend of a prince both cruel and brave. For the second time when the character was resurrected in Bram Stoker’s Gothic masterpiece „Dracula“ (1897), which reimagined him as an iconic vampire count. This negative branding has since impacted Romania’s image. Modern Romanian historians reacted by reversing the narratives and declaring him a symbol of their nation’s struggle for independence and freedom from the surrounding empires.“
