On 14 December 2022, Jan Wanner, Professor of Modern World History, passed away at the age of 82. The Institute of World History expresses its sincere condolences to the family.

We remember with gratitude and respect our former colleague and collaborator, who during his long research and teaching career at Charles University and the Institute of History of the CAS focused on the history of international relations in the 20th century, World War II diplomacy, modern Russian history, and conflicts in the Middle East.

Among Prof. Wanner’s extensive bibliography are the monographs The United States and the European War 1939-1945 (Prague 2001); In the Shadow of the Cold War. Marshall: Maker of Armies and Alliances (Prague 1998); Brezhnev and Eastern Europe 1968-1982 (1995).
